The Alpine Loop Scenic Byway is a must-see for anyone near Salt Lake City looking to experience the colorful fall foliage. Just 30 minutes from the city, this scenic 24-mile route connects American Fork Canyon with Provo Canyon and takes you on a 45-minute drive through the stunning Uinta National Forest, offering breathtaking views of Mount Timpanogos and Cascade Springs. Along the way, you'll see brilliant hues of red, orange, and gold, making it a memorable autumn escape.
2. Guardsmans Pass Overlook
Guardsmans Pass Overlook, just a scenic 45-minute drive from Salt Lake City, is a fantastic spot to soak in the vibrant fall leaves. This picturesque route winds through the Wasatch Mountains, offering stunning views of aspen groves and colorful foliage along the way. At the overlook, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of the autumn landscape, making it a must-visit for nature lovers.

5. Pine Canyon Drive
My favorite scenic drive for fall colors in Utah has got to be Pine Canyon Drive! Located in Park City, Pine Canyon Drive is a hidden gem for enjoying colorful Utah fall leaves. Just an hour's drive from Salt Lake City, this long, windy road takes you through the beautiful Heber Valley and endless tunnels of vibrant fall foliage—perfect for some good old fashioned, windows down Utah leaf peeping road trip! This was by far my favorite Utah fall photo location, I know you’ll love it too!
Note: Please use caution when driving on Pine Canyon Drive. It is a main local road so please be courteous. There aren’t many spots to stop along the side of the road, however, this specific spot is where we parked for some quick photos and drone footage. Right as the road bends to the left, there is a patch of sand off to the right where you can park your car for a quick pitstop. It’s small and can only fit about 2 cars at a time max so be aware.
6. Little Cottonwood Canyon
Little Cottonwood Canyon, nestled at an elevation of over 8,000 feet, is a spectacular spot to witness fall colors near Salt Lake City.
