Does it snow in Las Vegas?

When it comes to winter in Vegas, the one question I always get asked is, “Does it snow in Las Vegas?” Technically, yes! While Las Vegas is famous for its scorching summers and hazy desert vibes, we do get some snow in the winter months, but mostly in higher elevations. In the city itself, snow is pretty rare, but when it does happen, it’s like a magical surprise that melts almost as quickly as it arrives.

Where can I find the best skiing near Las vegas?

As much as I love the desert vibes of Las Vegas, sometimes a girl needs a change of seasonal landscape—and what better way to switch it up than by hitting the slopes? Believe it or not, you don’t have to travel far from the neon lights to find some incredible skiing spots. I’ve rounded up the top 5 ski resorts, all within a 4-hour drive of Las Vegas, so you can easily plan a day trip or a weekend getaway. Whether you’re a pro skier (or a beginner snowboarder like me) or just there for the cozy lodge vibes, these spots have a little something for everyone.

Mount Baldy Resort - Mount Baldy, California (4 hours from Las Vegas)

Mount Baldy Resort is a SoCal hidden gem for winter adventures, and it’s just about a 4 hour drive from Las Vegas, making it a super convenient escape for a weekend ski trip.

Mount Baldy is an underrated gem located in the San Gabriel Mountains of California that offers 26 trails spread out over 800 acres of skiable terrain. The vertical drop is an impressive 2,100 feet, with a summit elevation of 8,600 feet, so you’ll definitely get your heart pumping. What you’ll love about Baldy is the variety; about 15% of the trails are great for beginners, 31% cater to intermediate skiers, and a whopping 54% are for the advanced crowd looking for a challenge.

Ski and snowboarding season at Mount Baldy Resort usually kicks off in mid-December, and it typically runs through early April, depending on the snowfall, so you’ve got a good few months to enjoy those slopes. I always recommend checking their website or Instagram heading out, just to make sure the conditions are perfect and everything’s up and running.

What visitors love about Baldy besides their impressive slopes, is it has a laid-back vibe and it’s less crowded than some of the bigger resorts, so you can really enjoy the slopes at your own pace. They also have a cool Top of the Notch restaurant, accessible by scenic chairlift rides, where you can grab a bite while soaking in beautiful panoramic views. Mount Baldy is truly a small resort with big charm!

Mount Baldy Resort offers ski and snowboard rentals, which is super convenient if you don’t have your own gear, however, their rental inventory is pretty limited and can sell out quickly, especially on busy days. To avoid any hassle, I’d recommend renting your gear from an off-site shop before you head up to the resort so you can focus on enjoying your time on the mountain without any stress!

If you’re looking for a small, charming, laid back resort for skiing near Las Vegas, Mount Baldy is the perfect winter weekend getaway for you!
